The young cycling force to be reckoned with Tom Pidcock, and his Ineos Grenadiers team, stayed at Can Terrades to undergo MTB testing before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The challenging and varied terrain of the Girona landscape around the lodge was ideal for Tom and the team to get to grips with mountain biking intricacies and to put his bike properly through its paces. The success of the testing helped Tom to go on to win gold in the Olympics and become the youngest rider to win an Olympic mountain biking title - a phenomenal accomplishment for the twenty-one-year-old athlete.
The team used Can Terrades as a base, going out to set up testing camps in the different terrains in the local area. The vast variety of landscape near Girona allowed Tom to properly test the bike on tracks and trails, from the softer ground near the lakes to rocky mountain steep uphills and fast descents. Some days saw six hours of testing alone, including brake testing, wheels, tyres and suspension. It was a huge learning curb for the team who'd never undertaken such an immense new challenge together before.
The lodge provided state-of-the-art warm-up and cool-down facilities, the perfect space for sleep and relaxation and crucially, nutritionally perfect meals that fuelled Tom and the Grenadiers to spend hours pushing themselves to the max.
